History and Architecture:
First Services were held in a small building in Peel street and conducted by Reverend W. Baxter.
The present site for the church was purchased in 1862 for a sum of £125.00.
On Wednesday, 3 September 1862, the foundation stone of the church was laid after prayers led by the Reverend Selwyn Chase and an address by the Bishop of Melbourne!' The following particulars were placed in a bottle with several coins under the stone:
The stone reads, HOLY TRINITY CHURCH, KEW The Foundation Stone of this Church was laid by The Honorable Sir William F. Stawell, Kt. Chief Justice of the Colony of Victoria on 3 September, 1862 Being the 26th year of the reign of Her Majesty Queen Victoria, His Excellency Sir Henry Barkly, KCB, Governor in Chief of the Colony of Victoria; the Right Reverend Charles Perry, DD, by the Grace of God, Lord Bishop of Melbourne. Incumbency - Vacant Trustees: Sir William F. Stawell, Kt; John Halfey, Esq; Charles F. Bradley, Esq.
Construction was commenced in 1862 to a design believed to be by architect Charles Barrett. Subsequent additions include an enlarged nave (1864), transepts (1873), extended chancel and vestry added (1909), tower completed (1913) and a chapel was built in 1922. Constructed in bluestone with presumably sandstone dressings and a slate roof, the Church is cruciform in plan with an off axis west tower and added chapels.
Joinery, furniture and fittings by William Howitt. Services of worship began in the church in March of 1863.
