An Heritage board at the front of the Church reads in part'" A Meeting was held in the home of John Fisher at Dalkey, on October 14, 1877, at which it was decided to establish a church in Balaklava. It was initially known as the Balaklava Church of God but later became the Balaklava Church of Christ. The first members were Mr and Mrs Thomas Dalton, Mr and Mrs John Fisher, Mr and Mrs George Dorey, Mr H.T. Sparks and Mr John Verco.
On October 25, 1877, a meeting was held to proceed with the building of a chapel on May Terrace. This was opened on June 16, 1878 and from there, an evangelistic campaign followed, which saw the church's influence grow. In the years that followed, other supporting church branches were established in surrounding localities including Halbury, Alma, Lochiel and Owen. In 1908, the chuch was moved o its current location on Baker street.
A Foundaton stone on the old church reads, " This stone was laid by John Verco 17th April 1908".
