History and Architecture:
The original sandstone Wesleyan chapel was very small just 28 feet by 18 feet (8.5m by 5.5m) inside1. At the opening in October 1846 (the day of the month is unknown), about 40 people were present; reports do vary some say 150 but the chapel only seats about a hundred with the modern extension. The service was conducted by Rev WB Boyce.
The church was closed for twenty years but then was repaired and reopened on 4 October 1885. The church building was extended by 20 feet (6 metres) at the rear so as to include a vestry and a front porch was added also in about 1900.
