History and Architecture:

A historical plaque at the front of the Church reads in part,

"The Wesleyan Methodist Chapel was originally built in 1848 and is part of what is now the Wesley Centre. Due to a growing congregation, a trust was set up in May 1869 to erect a new church. Approval came from the trustees on the 20th May 1869 to go ahead with the construction plans developed by Mr Thomas Rowe. Reverend William Curnow performed the opening on 25th October 1871. A time capsule had been placed within the foundations of the church. Architecturally the building is brick with cement render dressings.

A spire, a little over thirty metres in height, is shingled with metal and has spirelets at each corner. The pulpit and much of the furnishings are of red cedar with the ceiling made of cedar and pine alternately. On the 6th November 1881 the church celebrated its tenth anniversary with completion of a new gallery that would seat a further 250 parishioners.

In 1891 an organ chamber was built into the northern wall to accommodate the piped Organ.

A Foundation stone reads, " Erected to the Glory of God this stone was laid by Rev R.H. Campbell Superintendent Minister 27th September 1924".
