History and Architecture:

The earliest ministry in the Gundagai area came from Rev C.F. Brigstoke from Yass The Foundation stone of the church was laid on 19 September 1861 by Right Reverend Barker Lord Bishop of Sydney. Mr George Hart a local resident designed the church.

The Church is built of local slate and the roof was originally "battered and shingled and lined inside the raftters with colonial pine". The stone mason was Abraham Marshall who along with Samuel True, played a large part in the building of St John's Church and many early Gundagai buildings.

The Church was opened on 5 June 1867 by Mesac Thomas, Bishop of Goulburn.

A corner stone reads, " This corner stone was laid by Robert Gordon Arthur M.A. Th.D. Bishop September 19. 1986".
