History and Architecture:
The current Baptist Church began its meetings again in 1968, when a small group of people began meeting in the house of Mrs Dot Ray to study the Bible together, and apply it to their lives. In 1971 it was formed as the Baptist Church under the Baptist Union recognition, with ministers visiting to lead services on a regular basis. They shared a Sunday School with the Methodists for some years as the Methodists had had to close theirs for lack of teachers.
In 1973 the Williams family bought the house at the corner of Church and Hope streets, and used its large loungeroom for services till 1975 when they sold the property to the Baptist Church for a fraction of its value as they were going to Africa as missionaries.
