History and Architecture:
The Freeman's Journal of Sat Jan 6th 1872 describes the then opening of church at the time in the following terms, "
Certainly it was due to the great kindness of the Right Rev. Or. O'Malley, who came at considerable inconvenience to open our new church, that an earlier public recognition should have been made of his Lordship's zeal and courtesy. He arrived in Inverell on the 15th inst, accompanied by the Rev. Martin Kelly. The Vicar General, who was driven from Glen Innes by Mr. Thomas M`Gaumn, did not reach our town until the following evening. Our visitors deserve much at our hands for making in this scorching weather such a long journey. Armidale is 80 miles and Tenterfield 100 miles from His Lordship who honoured the Rev. James Kelly (Father Hewitt's successor) by becoming his guest, must have been pleased to see what efforts were made to render him comfortable. Father Kelly was ably assisted in these hospitable exertions by several leading members of his congregation.
The Foundation stone was laid on March 29 1903.
