History and Architecture:
In August 1890 Messrs. Thomas Latham and A, R, Fenton made their homes in Ivanhoe, having moved from Collingwood where they were active workers in the Sackville Street, Wesleyan Church, At that time there were no means of public worship in Ivanhoe and the nearest church was the Alphington Wesleyan, about a mile distant.
On the 5th October, 1890, the first Wesleyan Service in Ivanhoe was conducted in the little State School, on the site of the present post office, The Rev. James Lowe, Superintendent of the Circuit and stationed at Preston, was the preacher.
Formerly a Methodist Church the Foundation stone of the current Church was laid on 18 July 1925. The Arcitect was Mr John Jenkin.
Up to the year of 1902 ministers were appointed by the Wesleyan Methodist Conference and since that year by the Victorian and Tasmainian Conference of the Methodist Church of Australia.
The Church is a red brick building with rendered dressings, drawing from the Norman or English Romanesque architecture. The central tower features a crenellated parapet with machiolations, diagonal buttresses and round arched windows with moulded hoods.
Flanking the tower are two gables of different sizes with roughcast half-timbered gable ends and windows with plate tracery. A large Cypress and conifers enhance the building's setting.
