History and Architecture:
A Mr Techritz offered to draw the plans for a church for Two Guineas and tenders for the building of a church 30 feet x 15 feet were to be called. By May 1875 a Mrs Riddell was busily collecting funds a harmonium and no doubt the committee felt confident that this would soon be housed in a fine church. As an early newspaper remarked these gentlemen were "both energetic and combative" and the minutes early committee meetings are proof of this. The original allotment of no. 7 was rescinded in favour of numbers 29 and 30 but it was finally decided to purchase half an acre of number 5 Twenty-four Pounds.
There is no record of the first service held in the eventually completed church but a meeting held on April 11th, 1877 under the chairmanship of the Rev. Williams was held in St. James. There was no resident priest but the lay-readers, who by now included Dr. John Cockburn continued to give valuable service with visits from the Rev. Spicer who resided at Laura. The Jamestown Parish contributed Sixty Pounds per annum to his stipend. March 1879 saw the appointment of the Rev. P. R.P. Dodd as curate of the district which included Jamestown, Belalie East, Caltowie, Yongala Station, Youngtown, Mannanarie and Orroroo with Jamestown and Belalie East contributing One Hun-dred and Fifty Pounds per annum.
The Foundation stone was laid by Archdeacon Dove on 6 October 1875. A Foundation stone found attached to a church wall reads as follows, " A.M.D.G. Church erected 1880 Porch added 1905".
