History and Architecture:
There is a note in the local Register of Services at Linton to the effect that "although no exact date of opening is recorded, it is believed that St. Paul's Day, 25th January, 1863, was the date chosen. Bishop Perry of Melbourne performed the Ceremony with the Rev. Mr. L'Oste as Vicar." The authentic evidence concerning this matter does not confirm this note (inserted in 1943 when the 80th Anniversary was held on 24th January) which is, in any case qualified by the words "it is believed." That the Church was opened for public worship in 1862 is definitely asserted by Bishop Perry, who, on the 6th January, 1863, at the Church Assembly in Melbourne, gave his report on the events of 1862.
