History and Architecture:

The church was a former Weslyan Methodist Church. The current Church hall was the first church.

For more than 50 years John Dunn was actively committed to the church in Mount Barker and funded the total construction of this church named in his memory. At the time it was made, the gift of the church building was believed to be the largest individual donation to a religious group in South Australia.

The Church was officially opened on 16 September 1884. It was designed by James Hill of Adelaide and built by Wye & Warburton. The foundation stone, located unusually high above the principal entrance, was laid on 12 March of that year by Mrs Jane Dunn, John's second wife. The total cost of the construction, fittings and furniture (including organ) was estimated at more than 4,000 the whole donated by John Dunn.
