History and Architecture:
The church was established largely as a result of the work of Father P. R. Hennebry and took four years to complete. The church opened in 1880, and the sanctuary was completed in 1882. The Architect was Henry Hunter.

Organ:
The first organ was built c.1843 by James Eagles of London for Bishop F.R. Nixon. Later installed at St Mary’s Cathedral and then installed in Newtown in 1895. Removed c.1952 & broken up. Present organ built in 1971 by George Fincham & Sons. It has 1m., 3 rks.ext., el.mag.
