History and Architecture:

Plans for this Church were brought from England by Bishop Short the Anglo-Norman design was credited to local architects Henry Stuckey and William Weir. Romanesque in style it was constructed of limestone, brick and sandstone trim. It was begun in 1848 with the apse being built after the death of Stuckey in 1851.

William Weir and Henry Stuckey were both involved with the Church of England’s Christ Church, North Adelaide, its Rectory and Bishop’s Court.  The design for these buildings has never been categorically attributed to one particular architect.

The foundation stone was laid in 1848 by the first Bishop of Adelaide Dr Augustus Short.
