History and Architecture:
Services were first held of the site commencing 16 May 1841. Four churches have been erected on the site since that date. The first was 1841 - 1851 then 1852 - 1864, 1861 - 1905 and finally 1905 to today. The church erected in 1905 was as a result of an earthquake in 1902. It was felt the church needed significant renovation and as a result of a significant gift from Mr Z. Tysack, a new building was erected.
Of Gothic design, and built of brick, it has a nave of 19m x long by 12m wide, and a chancel, 11m by 7m.
A Foundation stone was laid by 13 May 1905 by Mrs McFarlane. A further Foundation stone reads, " To the Glory of God in honour of our Lady and in memory of the men who died for their country in the great European War. This stone was laid by the Rector the Rev M. Williams B.A. September 11th 1915 Greater Love hath no Man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends".
