History and Architecture:
A Heritage plaque on the church reads, " This classic small building played an important part in Robe's early cultural life. Built in 1858 as a Free Presbyterian chapel, it also served as the town's first Institute, hosting public meetings, a subscription library open six nights a week and a museum. After the present Institute was completed in 1869, the Kirk housed a private school run by the Revd. H Howitt. It later became the Sunday school and Parish Centre for nearby St. Peter's Church".
