History and Architecture:

A Heritage wall plaque reads, " The Church's foundation stone was laid in 1859 by Captain Brewer, the Government Resident. At the first service conducted by the Reverend W.B. Andrews in 1860, it was noted that there were "no pews but good attendance". Pews were later installed and "rented" by many well-known local families. The tower and bell were added in 1896. There are lovely stained glass windows, including one in memory of shipping merchant, George Ormerod".

Architecturally, St Peter's Church is significant for its attractive form reminiscent of an English village Church, its substantial construction and its decorative brick trim. Construction was of brick trim to windows, edge of buttresses, gable and coping to plinth. Rendered walls (formerly may have been exposed stone) externally. Slate steps and porch floor. Cast iron arch to entrance, corrugated iron roof. Interior simple. Timber ceiling with exposed battens, scissor trusses. Stained glass memorial windows.

A wall plaque reads, " This plaque commemorates the laying of the Foundation stone of this church of St Peter's by Captain Charles Philip Brewer Government Resident Robertown 30th April 1859". A further wall plaque reads, " Beatrice Maude Foster and Ellen Foster had this porch restored in its centenary year May 1959 in loving memory of their sister Louisa Dorothy Foster died 15.5.58".
