History and Architecture:
The first church building was blessed in 1906 and was initially a part of St James Parish Elsternwick. In 1914 Sacred Heart became a Parish in its own right. The present church was opened in 1974 and underwent a major renovation in 2010.
A Foundation stone reads, " Church of the Sacred Heart this Memorial stone was laid by his Grace the Most Reverend T.J. Carr D.D. Archbishop of Melbourne 18 March 1906".
A further Foundation stone reads, " Sacred Heart Church and Presbytery were blessed by Bishop John A. Kelly D.D. V.G. on 15th August 1974. Architect Saraty Smith Builder L.P. Kelly Rev J.A. Scarborough P.P.".
