History and Architecture:

Father Peter Adlum, whose pastorate at Stanley spanned the years 1929 to 1932, built the third church at Stanley. Archbishop Hayden blessed the foundation stone on November 9, 1930. The new Star of the Sea Church was consecrated by Father Denis Murphy, administrator of the Diocese, on March 15, 1931. He had "never seen a country church so beautiful" This was "the house of God for Whom nothing is too good': The £2,000 church was designed by Launceston architect, Mr. East. He donated a candelabra.

The Church is the 3rd church to be built on this superb site, overlooking Godfrey’s beach and the old Pioneer Cemetery. The brick church was commenced in 1897 and completed the following year.

There is a foundation stone that reads, "A.M.D.G. This stone was blessed and laid by his Grave the Most Revd W Hayden Archbishop Of Hobart on Sunday November 9th 1930".
