History and Architecture:
Initially pastoral care in the Sunbury district was provided by the Coburg Mission. Father Patrick Dunne began celebrating the Eucharist in homes at Oaklands Junction from 1852. The earliest known Catholic gatherinfgs for Mass were held at the home of mary Daniel who offered her home Narbonne in Oaklands Junction to the visitng Priests.
In 1864 Father Moore assited Biishop James Gould Bishop of Melbourne, in laying the foundation corner stone on the 13th of November 1864. The Church was designed by William Wilkinson Wardell and is modelled on Saint Mary's church Chislehurst south - east England.
The Church was opened by Archbishop Gould on 24 January 1875. The Bell Tower was donated by the Leyden family and was rund the first time for Mrs Leyden's funeral in April 1911. The bell tower was taken down during the 19900's due to corrosion and rust.
The Church was renovated inside and out in 1978.
