History and Architecture:
In 1845 a stone building at Waterloo Point which had been used as a school was for a church and was used for Divine Service until July 1868 when the building was considered to be unsafe and was abandoned. In the Gothic Revival style the church was built in 1871. The Architect was Henry Hunter.
The Foundation Stone was laid by Mr. John Meredith of Cambria, when 'speeches were made by Mr. Meredith, Rev. J. Mayson, and Rev. Thos. Dove, Presbyterian Minister of the District. The building contractor was Mr. Andrew Gemmell who also built the pulpit to the design of Miss H. Mayson, youngest daughter of the Rector. Mr. A. N. Smith, State School teacher, was appointed honorary surveyor of the church building while in course of erection. Donations of money and labour helped to defray the cost.
In 1971 during a commemoration service, a brass plaque was unveiled by Bishop R. E. Davies to commemorate the CENTENARY of the present church. Amongst the early officials of the church were several men who subsequently rose to distinction in the public life of Australia.
A plaque on a side gate reads, " A.M.D.G. This gate was erected in memory of James Dodge his wife Sarah and family settled in Swansea 1855".
