A Foundation stone reads, " To the Glory and Holy Undivided Trinity in Honour of St Martin Bishop and Confessor and in memory of the men of Whyalla who made the supreme sacrifice during the second world war 1939 - 1945 This stone was laid by His Excellency The Governor Air Vice Marshall Sir Robert George K.B.E. C.B.M.C. July 5th 1953".
