History and Architecture:

The first Church building on the current Nelson Place site was a prefabricated iron structure, brought out from England by ship. The interior was described in 1866 as having a tolerable comfortable but temporary appearance, there being a nave and two side aisles.

The current bluestone Church, designed by Melbourne architect Leonard Terry, was finally built at the cost of £600. The foundation stone was laid on 11 February 1871 by Bishop Charles Perry.

The church was erected on the north side of the old iron building and was opened on the 7th October 1874 under a licence issued by the Bishop on the 17th of September.

Tenders were called for the two storeyed Vicarage in 1885 and it was built in 1886 to a design by Terry and Oakden. Noted Australian writer and Poet Ada Cambridge lived here while her Husband George Frederic Cross was the reverend at the Church.
