Born on 14 February 1824 in Brundish, Suffolk, England, the son of William Allen, farmer, and his wife, nee Kibble. At Sydney, New South Wales in January 1845. Arrived at Launceston, Van Diemen's Land in 1845 where he joined Pastor Henry Dowling's congregation. He married on 30 October 1846 at the Baptist Chapel, York Street, Launceston, V.D.L., to Georgiana Mary Greenaway Hollyman. They came to Melbourne c1848.
