Biography:

Born on 15 February 1811 at Paderborn, Westphalia, Prussia, the son of a boot merchant. Ordained in 1835. Educated in Paderborn and at the College of the Propagation of the Faith, Rome (D.D., 1836). Ordained priest on 24 August 1836. Sailed from Ireland to India.

Served at Berhampur, India (c1837-46). In Sydney, New South Wales. Arrived at Melbourne on 27 October 1847 per "Juno" en route from Sydney to Adelaide. Ministered to German migrants in Adelaide. Arrived back in Melbourne in March 1852 per "Marshall Bennett". In the Bendigo area at the time of the gold rush. Opened St. Kilian's, Bendigo, in 1858. Visited Europe in 1863. At Adelaide, South Australia.

Returned to Bendigo in 1867. Purchased a house in the Melbourne suburb of Hampton in 1881 which he named "Santa Margarita" in memory of his mother. Died on 7 September 1882 at the residence of John Crowley, Rowan Street, Bendigo, Victoria and was buried on 11 September 1882 at St. Kilian's Church, Bendigo, Vic.
