Biography:

Born c1812 at Newington Green, Middlesex, England, the son of William Baker, silk merchant and Lloyd's agent, and his wife Hannah, nee Wright. He studied for the medical profession and received a diploma as a member of the Royal College of Surgeons. Worked in England and India.

Spent four years in New South Wales. Returned to England. He married on 14 September 1848 at St. Mary's, Nottingham, England to Mary Dunn, daughter of Jonathan Dunn, stationer and bookseller, and his wife Phoebe, nee Kelk.

Arrived at Melbourne on 23 January 1849 per "Alice Maude" from London with his wife. Became a lay reader at Moonee Ponds. Ordained deacon on 21 December 1852 and was appointed curate of St. Paul's, Melbourne.

Ordained priest in 1854 and was posted to Tower Hill (1855-70), Ballan (1870-74), Talbot (1874-80) and Buninyong (1880-c85). His wife died on 8 April 1865. He married secondly, on 18 October 1866 at St. Paul's Church, Melbourne, Victoria to Hannah Newton Davies, daughter of the Rev. Josiah Davies, Independent minister, and his wife Hannah, nee Newton.

Retired c1885 to Geelong. Died of typhoid fever on 13 April 1889 at his residence 'Bitah Conah', Bellerine Street, Geelong, Victoria and was buried on 15 April 1889 at the Eastern Cemetery, Geelong, Vic.
