History and Architecture:
The Advocate Newspaper recorded on January 5th 1939 the Church was formally opened by His Grace the Archbishop on New Years Day. His Grace blessed the new church, assisted by the Right Rev. Mgr. R.S. Benson, P.P., V.F.; Very Rev. Dr. Lyons, Rev. J.H. O'Halloran, P.P.; Rev. Norman Hoare, P.P.; Rev. J. McDonald, P.P.; Rev. J.H. Cleary, Rev. P.J. O'Connor, Rev. K. Morrison, Rev. B. O'Connor, Rev. K. Broderick, Rev. E. Nowlan, Rev. J. Tresidder (master of ceremonies), Rev. B. Day, Rev. Fr. O'Donovan, Rev. Fr. Hehir, S.J.; Rev. Fr. Cowan, O.M.I.; Rev. Brother Doyle and other Brothers from St. Augustine's Orphanage, Geelong.
The design demonstrates original qualities of the interwar Carpenter Gothic style. These qualities include the crowstepped parapetted gable roof, with a minor parapetted gable porch projecting to the side north.
