History and Architecture:

In 1913 Fr. Quinn built a weatherboard church — 60 feet by 30 feet — on the corner of Station Street and Woodbine Grove; by this time the Catholic families numbered 25. This church was Blessed and opened by Dr. Carr, Archbishop of Melbourne, on 27th December, 1914. Before the opening, Fr. Quinn had been transferred to Oakleigh and Fr. T. English was appointed to Mentone.

St Joseph's was attached to Mentone until 1927 when Frankston was made a parish. The first church was later badly burnt in 1965.  The current church was opened on 5 Januaury 1941 with a cost of £10,500. The Architect was Mr Cyril Kelly and the Builder was Mr W.J. Kelly.
