History and Architecture:

Crookwell parish was formed in 1882. The government had granted a piece of land from the corner of Spring Street and several blocks in Cowper Street for the erection of the Catholic Church and Presbytery. Around 1880 approximately 14 acres of land was purchased from Michael Moylan, and on this land a small presbytery was built. On Sunday 19th April 1891, St Mary’s Catholic Church was blessed and opened by Bishop William Lanigan.

A Foundation stone reads, "The Original Church erected April 1891 Dr Lanigan Bishop of Goulburn extensions blessed and opened by Most Rev G. Young D.D. Auxiliary Bishop to Most Rev T.B. McGuire D.D. Archbishop of Canberra - Goulburn 5th August 1951. Rev B.C. Lynch Rev A.J. McGilvray Adm".
