History and Architecture:

The Church was designed by Edmund Blacket and opened in 1883 – the building was originally intended to be used as a school and temporary church, but the arrangement became permanent and in 1891 the building was extended with the additions of a transept and chancel.

The other heritage building on our site, known as ‘Wynola’, was originally a neighbouring private home designed by Horbury Hunt. It was acquired by St James in 1926.

A wall plaque reads, " To the Glory of God commemorating the first service held in a marquee 10th September 1882 dedicated by James Holmes Rector 12th September 1982".
