History and Architecture:

The church was built in two parts, one dating from 1881 and a 1961 extension. The former wing is built in light brown brick with stone dressings in the Early English Gothic revival style. The building is divided by buttresses into 3 bays each with lancet windows. The latter wing (dating from 1961) is built in cream brick and is positioned in front of the older building and on the eastern side across its facade. There a paired windows in the side walls.

From the Hamilton Spectator, Thurs. 22 Sept. 1881, p4 "Opening of st Mary's Dunkeld": Messrs Watson and Collins builders, William Smith surveyor & architect of Hamilton drew the plans, Farroll & Son Jewellers of Gray St Hamilton, selector of the organ (they were appointed sole agents for Hamilton and western district for Messrs Nicholson & Ascherberg, of Melbourne) for pianos, organs and harmoniums available at Melbourne prices. Gothic style of architecture described as "a perfect little gem.".
