History and Architecture:

The Honourable A.J. Brown donated land for a church and Reverend Morris included the Kolan Shire area in his country rounds on horse back.

In 1890 the district was transferred to the care of Gayndah but returned to Bundaberg together with Mt. Perry in 1900. Later the oversight of the district was entrusted to the Bush Brotherhood - a unique group consisting of priests and laymen. The Brothers rented the Presbyterian Church in May Street for services. At Easter in 1904, eighteen people attended a St. Mary's Church of England meeting to form a Parish and build a church. £46.0.0 was collected and the Honourable A. Brown donated a further £100.0.0 The tender of Mr. F. Blare for £256.0.0. was accepted -the building to be ready by June 1905 and the Church was paid for when it was dedicated by Archbishop Donaldson. Reverend G.J. Hart was appointed first Rector of Gin Gin and Mt.Perry.

A building was brought from Mt. Perry to serve as a Rectory for a total cost of £350.00. Between 1915 and 1940 there were many changes of Clergy with the Parish unattended for lengthy periods, however the Reverend Sewell stayed for seven years. Other Rectors about this time were Arkell and Tomlinson. In 1951 Reverend Shirley was appointed in an attempt to re-open the Parish which had been served by Bundaberg on an irregular basis since 1948, The experiment was not a success and the Parish returned to Bundaberg until 1988. Reverend E. Nelson-Dern was appointed and the Parish revived. Later priests were Fathers White, Taylor and N. Nixon who has been resident for five years.
