The Foundation stone was laid on 5 September 1909 by the Most Reverend Dr Carr Archbishop of Melbourne.

Organ:
The first organ was built in c1960 by S.I. Sakacs. Remodelled in c1967. It had no pedals. Second organ, see: Deer Park. St Peter Chanel's Catholic Church. Present organ was built in 1890 by Alfred Fuller for the St Mary's Catholic Church, Echuca. Installed in 1970 at the St Mary's Redemptorist Monastery, Ballarat. Restored & installed at present location in 2000 by Wakeley Pipe Organs. It has 2m, 10spst, 4c, tr. Gt: 8.8.8.4.2. Sw: 8.8.8.4. Ped: 16.
