History and Architecture:

The parish of St Georges Hurstville was originally part of the historic parish of St Peter's Cooks River back in the year 1856. The ceremony of laying the foundation stone was performed by the Primate of Australia and the Archbishop of Sydney the Most Reverend Dr Barry DD on 6 April 1889.

The old church was demolished in 1888 and a new church built in 1889.

A Chinese ministry began in July 1995 in response to the rapid growth of the Chinese population in the Hurstville area, under the leadership of Rev. Irene Mok with the support from the English congregation led by Rev. David West.

A Foundation stone reads, " Pro Deo Et Patria This stone was set by Sir Phillip Game C.B.E K.C.B D.S.O Governor of N.S.W. July 9th 1932. To the Glory of God this Trancept is erected and in grateful memory of those noble souls who went firth from this parish to the Great War 1914 - 1918 Rev Dixon Hudson Rector".
