History and Architecture:

The first Anglican church was built in John (now Rotherham) Street, and the first services were taken by Archdeacon Glennie of The Downs, with the first Rector being Rev. Bodenham.

The foundation stone of the present church was laid in 1872, and the church was consecrated on 5 November 1873,2 replacing an earlier timber church built nearby in John Street (then Church Lane) in 1849. The building is constructed of porphyry stone (Brisbane tuff) obtained close by. It was designed by the architect, R.G. Suter.
