History and Architecture:

The first church service in Malmsbury was held in what was Mr French's store when the Rev'd James Sullivan was then Rector of Kyneton.

A wall plaque reads, "St John the Evangelist Church 1861. Bishop Perry laid the foundation stone watched by 300 people in Nov 1861. Built of local bluestone the church was opened in 1866 and cost £3,751, the community contributed half. Restored 2000/2001".
