A plaque on the Church wall reads, " St John's Metung first dedicated 1891 Consecrated for divine worship on this site by the Bishop of Melbourne Bishop Field Flowers Goe 11 November 1897. This plaque commemorates 100 years of service to the community. 16 November 1997".
