History and Architecture:

The church plan, was suggested by Archdeacon Tucker three years before its erection and was prepared by Mr. George Heathcote of Wangaratta, who supervised the erection. Messrs. Fitzpatrick and Shea were the contractors. The furniture was made by Mr. J. Roberts of Little Collins St. Melbourne.

Building costs amounted to more than £2000. The land was donated by Mr. Goodyear. Before the building of the church, local Anglicans worshipped in a local shed.

The Revd. Charles May Yelland, curate of Wangaratta, was appointed to St. Paul's Oxley Plains (Milawa) in June 1873, and in October of that year, five hundred people attended a tea meeting when he was given charge of the churches at Moyhu and Whorouly as well.

A plaque on the wall of the Church reads, “The church of St Paul first opened in 1873 and restored in 1973. It was extensively damaged in a storm which struck the township on 14th January 1977.  It was rebuilt by the enterprise and skill of Leonard William Hooper and many others. With the help of gifts from many parts of Australia, and was again set apart for the worship  of God by Maxwell McNee Thomas Th. the 6th Bishop of Wangaratta on 8th October 1979”.

A plaque on an entrance gate pillar reads, A. M. D. G. The Lych Gate of St Paul's, Milawa was erected in the memory of the Pioneers of this church and dedicated by The Bishop of Wangaratta on Sunday 14th March, 1954.
