History and Architecture:

The first Roman Catholic Church erected in South Australia was St Mary's, Morphett Vale, on a site given by Mr A Anderson. It was dedicated by Bishop Murray on 8 December 1844. Built of local stone, the foundation stone was laid July 1845, opened 1846. Nave and chancel erected about twenty years later. The roof is now slate tiles, walls cement rendered.

The newer and larger church was erected in 1971. The Foundation stone was laid on 28 November by the Most Reverend J.W. Gleeson Archbishop of Adelaide.
