History and Architecture:
This Victorian Gothic Revival Church (begun 1846, completed in 1847) was designed and built by James Houison. Additions were made in 1860 and spire completed in 1861. It is built of finely dressed sandstone with a timber trussed slated roof and consists of a nave, aisles and chancel and a square tower with a fine broad spire. Includes grounds and trees.
A plaque reads," Jesus said Go to the people of all nations and make them my deciples (Matthew 28:19) Commemorating the 150th Anniversary of the laying of the Foundation Stone on 23rd May, 1846".
A further plaque reads, "Blessed be he who enters in the name of the Lord (Psalm 118:26) This church was built on land given to Reverend Samuel Marsden in 1822 being part of a 112 acre property called Newlands. He was a Minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and a leader of the Anglican Church during the early years of European Settlement in Australia.
The building was opened for public use to worship God on 31st October 1847. This plaque commemorates the 150th Anniversary of the death of Samuel Marsden on 12th May 1838 and is dedicated by his descendent, the Reverend Samuel Edward Marsden of Ingrave, Essex, England 11th May, 1988 with thanksgiving to God.

Organ:
The first organ in this historic church was a small J W Walker organ of 1851, enlarged in 1865 (parts being supplied by Walkers) and rebuilt by C W Leggo in 1921. The current Organ was built by Hill, Norman & Beard. It was rebuilt in 1966 by Pitchford & Garside.
