On Sunday 2 March, 1929 the new Church was opened on an “elevated position on Hammers Road.”Officiating was The Hon Mr E. K. Bowden retired Federal Member for Nepean and great grandson of Methodist pioneer layman, Thomas Bowden (who was among the small cohort of early Wesleyan layman who requested a missionary from England resulting in the appointment of pioneer Rev Samuel Leigh in 1815). Mr Bowden was accompanied in the official party by ministers Rev Putland, Rev Palmer and Rev W Deane (Chairman of the District). Rev Bembrick (Northmead’s first minister) was an apology.
