History and Architecture:

The Catholic Leader of December 31 1964 reads, " A crowd of 400 witnessed the blessing and opening of a new church dedicated to Our Lady of the Way at Palm Beach, in the Burleigh Heads parish, by Monsignor Leo Carlton, PP, Kangaroo Point. on Sunday, December 20.  Monsignor Carlton delegated by His Grace the Archbishop to perform the ceremony, was assisted by the parish priest. Father Frank Shine, and Father D McQuaid. assistant priest. Among clergy present were Fathers F Ryan OFM, B Hammond SSS, and P Downey SSS (Toowoomba), B Kenny PP (Corinda). and E Harley (Chaplain. Military Forces. Enoggera). The church, built at a cost of £12,000, provides seating for 500 people, and was fittingly designed by Mr Brian Murphy. Builder was Mr Ray Taylor, of Palm Beach.
