History and Architecture:

It is one of few remaining buildings of pure Georgian character, has most important associations with many notable pioneering families such as Lawson, Weston, Bettington and represents a community effort in early colonial period to produce, without very skilled architectural aid, a building of Georgian character.

The building is a simple rectangular Victorian Georgian  brick Church with a tower, including a porch, a vestry and choir room. The walls are brick with plastered walls inside. There are timber floors and originally shingled roof and cedar joinery. The tower is a simple geometric shape with the brick being used for integral detailing. The contract to build the Church was won by James Atkinson of Mulgoa.

The Sydney Morning Herald of 17 April 1841 reported, "On Wednesday last the Bishop of Australia laid the foundation of a Parochial Church at Prospect. There were a number of the most respectable inhabitants of the district and its vicinity who attended on the occasion, and not a few of them testified their sincerity in appearing on such an occasion by liberally subscribing in aid of the funds for the proposed edifice."
