History and Architecture:
The Original church was opened on 25 December 1844 and was demolished in 1859. The Foundation for this church was laid on 25 August 1859 and it was opened 30 October 1861.
A large stone Church with a tower and spire, one of Canon A. D. Soares'. The foundation of this, the second Church in Queanbeyan, was laid in July, 1859. The building was finished in 1860 and consecrated by Bishop Barker on 30/10/1861. The Sydney Church Society contributed £25 for four years towards its cost. The Church was originally roofed with shingles. Some years ago it was re-roofed with iron at a cost of £300 by William Gabriel, a chemist of Queanbeyan, who was a churchwarden for 48 years.
The east window was designed by Messrs. John Reid and Son and filled with stained glass by Messrs. Tarrant and Coy. from designs depicting the Ascension, by Mr. Norman Carter, the whole a gift from Mrs. Bull and her daughters in memory of John Bull, who died 9/5/1901.
