History and Architecture:
The first Mass in Queenscliff was held in 1851.
In 1854, an initial application for land "for a church, school and a clergyman's House" was rejected but a second application in March 1855 was successful and land was set aside in Stevens Street.*
An appeal for funds went further than the local area and Pilot O'Neill who was organizing the fund raising received donations from Melbourne Catholics who were already coming to Queenscliff for summer holidays.*
Tenders were called in 1863 for the masons' work on the new Catholic Church and the church was officially opened in January 1867 according to a record in the Geelong Advertiser. The Right Reverend Dr Goold blessed the church. The delay in its completion was in part due to the long distances the stone had to be carted.*
By 1900 renovations to the church and a presbytery were completed. The Presbytery cost 760.00.*
