History and Architecture:
The most prominent Catholic at Ross in the early 1850s was Doctor Edward Swarbreck Hall, the noted Biblical scholar. Hall held the post of Government medical superintendent. The Doctor agitated in the Ross - Campbell Town district for the Anti-Transportation League. John Mitchel describes the devout Catholic, who "on Sundays walked to Mass at the a head of his numerous family, with an illuminated volume of hymns and meditations.
