History and Architecture:

The foundation stone for the 3rd Methodist chapel in Ryde was laid On New Year’s Day 1870, by Isaac Shepherd . The land for the new chapel was part of the land donated by James Devlin for the first two chapeld it now replaced.

A plaque reads in part, Methodist witness began in Ryde in 1817 when Mr James Shepherd started a Sunday School in Dowdels Barn.  Services were held in homes until the first Kissing Point Methodist Church was opened 11 September 1921. The first church on this site now the church hall at the rear was built in 1849 The first resident Minster settled in 1882.
