History and Architecture:

The first church was built in 1881and opened by the Right Reverend Dr Lanigan on 9 October 1881

The arrival of Fr. McDwyer from Young as Curate in early 1906, allowed Fr. Fallon to apply himself more readily to the mammoth task of organising the new (church) venture. "Plans for the church were prepared by Messrs Kempson & Conolly of Bourke St., Melbourne. The building was to be 110ft. long x 35ft. wide, the walls rising to 31 ft. before the roof parapet (was) reached, the sanctuary (was to be) gathered within three stately arches and a marble high altar to cost 200 subscribed by the ladies of the district."*

With the intention of building only part of the church, extending as far as the present side doors, Fr. Fallon let a contract with Mr C.O. Luff of Melbourne for that portion at 2,410. On his return he was persuaded by the parishioners to have the whole plan carried out.*

This second Church was built between 1906 and 1907 the Foundation stone was laid on 3 March 1907 by the Right Reverend John Gallagher D.D. Bishop of Goulburn.
