Mr W.E. Roberts of "Oakdale" laid the Foundation stone 18th February 1912. The official opening was 1st September, 1912. It cost £1,888 to construct. The first Catholic priest visited Streaky Bay in 1868. A Foundation stone reads, " Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam 1912".

The church was opened on 11th December, 1911 and cost £800. The beginnings of Methodism in the Streaky Bay district are closely associated With the Wesleyan cause at Elliston. A Foundation stone reads, " This stone was laid by H.J. Salmon Esq July 18th 1911". The builder was J.H. Salmon. The initials maybe be incorrect.

The Church was built in 1875. Badly burnt in 1977, and was restored and rededicated in 1980. Of Early English Gothic design its a four bay, bluestone church with spire capped tower. The Architect was possibly H S Saville. Walls are constructed in random-coursed bluestone with lighter coloured stone dressings and a slate roof.
