In March 1948 the first recorded Anglican service took place when the priest from the Parish of Flinders celebrated Holy Communion in the Mechanic's Hall, Red Hill. St. George's was adopted as the name for the future church. The current church was dedicated by the Regional Bishop on Dedication Day in 1979.

In 1919 the land was purchased and three trustees were appointed. By the middle of 1922 a loan of £200 had been approved and by November work commenced on a weatherboard church in Ashley Street. The Builders were Messrs Mathieson, Fyfe, Irwin along with many volunteers. In 1958 a building fund was established for a new church.

First services were held in the tent town south of the current location of the town. The first church was opened in 1864 and this was moved to its present site in 1858. A new church was opened in 1926 on land donated by John Carre Riddell who had a large land holding in the area.
